La pièce Le prince et le pauvre a commencé par illuminé New York lors du  Midtown Festival  pour ensuite venir  faire vibrer l’Espace Libre pour deux représentations.

South Park, inspiré du film South Park: Bigger Longer and Uncut et présenté en lecture chantée, a su envahir la salle d’éclat de rire.

Peau d’âne, la princesse sans nom, joué en première mondiale  par le Théâtre Exaltemps, a ramené les plus grands en enfance.

My Favorite Things interprété par Stephen Pietrantoni a touché en plein cœur les spectateurs par le jeu personnel et humain où chacun a pu se reconnaitre.

Le CETM a pour but de contribuer à l’essor des nouveaux artistes à travers le théâtre musical. Pour cela le Spotlight Estival, représenté par la troupe Chante ta voie et par certains participants des concours Spotlight Festival, a été joué en plein air permettant à tout le monde d’assister à un spectacle gratuit et entre autre d’écouter la célèbre musique let the Sunshine.

Adam Blanshay, qui fait carrière à Broadway, a également contribué à l’essor du théâtre musical en donnant une conférence inédite sur le métier de producteur.

Pour toutes ces choses nous souhaitons vous remercier en personne, car sans vous le Festival The Next Wave ne pourrait pas exister. Votre participation et votre présence ont su donner vie à Montréal, et aussi au CETM.

The French production Le Prince et le Pauvre, was back this year to perform at Espace Libre after a scintillating 3-day run at New York’s Midtown International Theatre Festival.

Our South Park Concert inspired by the film South Park: Bigger Longer and Uncut had the house in stitches from the very first song!

Théâtre Exaltemps was successful in bringing their audience, young and old alike, to the magical world of Peau d’âne, la princesse sans nom which had it’s world premiere at La Maison de la Culture Frontenac.

My Favorite Things, performed by Festival director Stephen Pietrantoni, tugged at our heart strings in an up-close and personal one-man show.

CETM’s mandate is to support up and coming new artists in the world of musical theatre and this year’s Summer Spotlight definitely fit the bill. Members of Chante Ta Voie and past performers of the Spotlight Competitio, came together to perform in the open air for anyone and everyone who stopped by for a free concert. The performance ended with the whole gang singing Let the Sunshine in.

Adam Blanshay, a Montrealer who went and got his break as a big time Broadway producer, dropped by the CETM Studio to hold a conference to uncover to mystery of what is to be a producer.

This classic story by Charles Perrault has been adapted by Chantal Grenier and directed by Philippe Soldevila, and will be presented as a special staged reading at The Next Wave Festival of New Musicals.

Théâtre Exaltemps has already had great success with the presentation of their first original work, “Noël 1933″.

This new adaptation promises to surprise and delight audiences.  According to author Chantal Grenier: “We made the decision early on to be true to Perrault’s original text. Younger audience members will appreciate the magical aspects of the story, while adults will likely enjoy the irreverent humour that infuses the piece.” The show’s musical score is designed to fit perfectly with the story.  “It was very important for us to have the music reinforce the drama of the tale,” added Catherine Savoie, co-composer of the songs.

Theatre Exaltemps will unveil its new creation on Saturday, August 18th at 11:00 a.m. at the Maison de la Culture Frontenac.

“The Prince and the Pauper” was extremely well received last year at Montreal’s Next Wave Festival of New Musicals.  The show originated in France in 2008, where it won an award for best new family musical.  In Montreal, the show added a new full orchestration with seven musicians.  ”With the show going from Paris to Montreal and now to New York, the circle is complete,” said a spokesman for CETM.  ”It’s great to see Montreal in the middle of things as a centre of development, nurturing our local talent.”

Almost all of the original Montreal cast will be back to reprise their roles.  After their New York visit, the troupe will also give two encore performances in Montreal on August 3 and 4 at Espace Libre.

In collaboration with the Ville-Marie borough, as well as Espace Libre and the Maison de la Culture Frontenac, CETM promises innovative new programming.  There is something to satisfy every taste and age group.

To reach this goal, we will present works in both English and French, including a new French adaptation of The Prince and the Pauper (straight from the Midtown International Theatre Festival in New York), a special concert adaptation of the first South Park movie, a review of classic musical theatre songs, and a brand-new musical by Theatre Exaltemps.  In addition, Summer Spotlight will bring musical theatre to the outdoors along Ontario Street.

During the festival, CETM will also welcome Montreal-born Broadway producer Adam Blanshay.  He is one of the driving forces behind such current hits as Evita and Jesus Christ Superstar.  At our own CETM Studio, Adam will talk about his career, and the often-misunderstood world of producing.  A question and answer period will complete the presentation.
